Parents
Dear Parents,
As a Parent myself, and a Grandparent, I know that in today’s hectic world our time never seems to be our own. Just keeping up with the Jones', plus whatever else the kids can throw at us is becoming increasingly more difficult. Sometimes, we get involved in things we really don’t want to. I know! I have very little spare time for myself.
I am writing this letter because somehow I have 23 minutes to spare, where it came from? I don’t know! But I'd better hurry and explain to you why I have created these fun characters and website for your kids, and hopefully you'll get a kick out of it too.
Clubrapcat and the Rapcat characters are funny, cool, musical, educational and entertaining. They have helped me change my attitude and my bad habits. I was doing nothing for the environment. I was an unbeliever, ignorant as to what was really happening and slow to adopt the 3 R's, (Re-use, Reduce & Recycle). I told myself , “what do you expect, I have no time!” I will admit, it was my kids that got me into doing the right thing,.“How?” you ask. They did it first by embarrassing me in front of the “Jones'”. “Oh! my parents don’t do anything for the environment”, and what was my response, “That’s not true”, I said, “I talk about what we should be doing all the time” That’s creating awareness isn’t it?” They replied with their noses up, “Sure Dad! ”
The guilt finally got to me when the kids showed me pictures of what was actually happening to the world. From the waste that was going into the oceans and then back up onto the shores, (“Wow!” I remember swimming in that water last year) to taking notice of the air I was breathing when being outside my own back door (“cough, cough”). Not just a cold coming on, I thought (cough). It’s a good job you don’t actually see those micro particles, or you might just suffocate trying to hold your breath. I can tell you, my attitude changed from “I don’t have the time!”, “I can’t be bothered” or “It’s just too much work,” you know, find any excuse, like “Hey, there’s enough people doing it, they don’t need my help.” . . . Well you get my point.
That is why I decided to change my ways, and you know what? My kids, grandkids and I are having fun doing the right thing, and that has made me feel even a little bit proud. However, I know I can’t do everything, but I know, if I just do a little to start, it will make a big difference for our future.
So I think the key to it all is to have “fun” while you're doing the right thing, and it would be nice to get a little praise and recognition for what we have accomplished along the way, don’t you think? You know we have enough chores to do, and its not easy making changes to the routines that we have had for decades. Though now at least, I can admit that I was part of the problem, I suppose!
“Oh! What's that dear”, I have just been told that my 23 minutes of silence are now over and the kids are coming, “Yes, Dear! I heard you, and thanks for the warning”.
Seriously parents! you will enjoy having fun with your kids and the Racpcat characters, by getting more involved. The more changes we make at home and/or the work place, the more our kids will benefit. Join what we hope will be the biggest environmental club in the world. The power of this kids-club will help us to voice our children’s, as well as our own, concerns to Governments, Corporations, and to people all over the world.
Sincerely,
Paul Bartram.
